Case Study: Woodsford Square

The Project

We became involved with this client before they purchased the house, when the agent asked us to give advice on how the interior layout could be altered to suit them, and whether they would be able to achieve their aim within their budget.

Garner Robinson Designs

We advised that not only was it all possible, but that we could help them improve on their initial ideas to create a truly outstanding house, and they duly made the purchase.

With the involvement of our architect, the project went ahead over a period of 6 months. The ground floor originally contained a garage, guest bedroom and en suite shower room, with awkward access to the garden.

This entire space was opened up, keeping a utility area behind the garage door which had to be retained, with the remainder given to kitchen and dining areas, as well as a guest cloakroom. Full width glass folding sliding doors were used to add to the sense of space and give direct access to the garden.

Results

The old staircase was taken out, the flights reversed and a new steel, walnut and glass staircase built from ground floor to the top of the house.

The first floor was originally divided into a kitchen and living space, but with the beautiful new walnut and silver kitchen located on the ground floor, this whole floor was opened up to provide a glorious through sitting room, with steps leading down to the garden.

The second floor was redesigned to accommodate the master bedroom with en suite bathroom, and a separate study.

The top floor was converted into two guest bedrooms, a bathroom and a nursery for the eagerly awaited bundle of joy who conveniently made his appearance just after the project was completed.

Solid walnut was used throughout for the floors, as well as for the full height doors and joinery. The exception was the flooring on the ground floor level which was laid with large limestone slabs, leading out into the garden paved in the same stone.
